Top Five (Half) Marathons for Women

Last year I ran a half marathon every month and I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly. There are some races that are decidedly geared towards women.

Here is my top five list:

  1. Walt Disney World’s Princess Half Marathon

Running through Cinderella Castle is truly a dream come true. This is a great race for women because you can unleash your inner princess by wearing a tutu, donning a crown or running in full costume. You can choose between a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or Glass Slipper Challenge. All Half Marathon race finishers will receive a shirt, mesh bag, princess medal and personalized bib. The race retreat is fit for a princess, as you can get pre-race bagels, coffee, have a warm place to wait before the race and relax with a post-race massage. The characters on the course include all your favorite Disney Princesses and other fun characters. You can even purchase a Disney Dooney and Burke specially themed for the Disney Princess Half Marathon!

  1. Walt Disney World Tinker Bell Half Marathon

The Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend includes a 5K, 10K and Half Marathon at Disneyland. Your heart will be filled with pixie dust as you run 13.1 miles through Anaheim and Disneyland! Every Half Marathon finisher receives a Champion shirt, Tinker Bell medal, Tinker Bell mesh bag and iGiftBag. You can even sign up for the Pixie Dust Challenge, which is the 10K and the Half Marathon! In addition to the Tinker Bell Half Marathon and 10K medal, you will receive a special Pixie Dust Challenge Medal! You can register for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend starting on August 11, 2015! Check out the Tinker Bell Dooney and Burke from last year! I can’t wait to see the designs for this year.

3. Run Like a Diva

The Run Like a Diva half marathon and 5K series offers a fun race environment for women of all ages. In 2015, the race series will now begin giving away free pink tutus to all race participants! All race finishers also receive a beautiful medal, complete with sparkly jewels and a crown design. You will not only put a medal around your neck at the finishing line, but you will also get a feather boa, tiara, glass of bubbly champagne and pink race t-shirt. The Run Like a Diva series is held in 10 locations across the United States.

4. Queen Bee Half Marathon

The Queen Bee Half Marathon is not only dedicated to women runners with awesome swag bags of goodies, Bee-U Tique Expo, Queen Bee Fashion Show and Queen Bee Victory Party, but the charities that the Queen Bee Half Marathon supports are dedicated to women. The race is held in Cincinnati, OH on October 10, 2015. You can register now.

5. Thelma & Louise Half Marathon

The ladies only Thelma & Louise Half Marathon benefits Girls on the Run, a nationwide program for teaching girls in grades 3 through 8 about body image, self esteem, health and friendship and Seekhaven, who provides shelter and assistance to families in crisis. The half marathon is dedicated to women runners only. In the FAQ on their site, they encourage men to participate as volunteers if they would like to offer support, but men cannot register for the event. The course is flat, with a total of only 20 feet in elevation! The Thelma and Louise Half Marathon will be held in Utah on June 4, 2016.
