Top Five Healthy Dining Options in Walt Disney World for Mother Runners

Healthy eating Disney WorldDuring my visit to Walt Disney World last week I was blown away at the plethora of healthy eating options. I am participating in a summer healthy eating challenge with my local YMCA and we are challenged to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables a day for at least four days a week throughout the entire month of July. I was worried about staying on track while I was on vacation, but I didn’t need to worry. Disney has an abundance of healthy eating options in the parks, resorts and dining establishments. Here are my top five picks:

 

Disney Allergy KioskAnimal Kingdom’s Allergy Kiosk

During our past several visits we haven’t been able to visit Animal Kingdom, so I was blown away at the attractions, food and entertainment at this park! For those looking for delicious food that is good for you, this is your park! My favorite was the food allergy kiosk located on Discovery Island near It’s Tough to Be a Bug. The allergy kiosk was staffed with a cast member who could answer questions about the options available to guests with allergies. I have a dairy allergy, so I was thrilled to see that they had Tofutti ice cream. They also had gluten-free treats, rice chips and hummus. OhanaOhana

In my opinion, Ohana is the best restaurant for those will allergies or special dietary request. I have a dairy allergy, and I noted the allergy on my reservation. Before any food was brought to our table a chef visited me and discussed my food allergy in-depth and provided the options available to me. The complimentary Hawaiian bread that they typically bring to the table upon seating was held back due to my allergy and I greatly appreciated their concern for my health. The chef made me a special breakfast with dairy-free eggs, waffles and sausage.

 

Magic Kingdom

Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal KingdomThe Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in Disney’s Magic Kingdom actually had two dairy-free and gluten-free options – Both Tofutti and Rice Dream. It was wonderful to have a dairy-free alternative!

Animal Kingdom’s Harambe Market

The Harambe Market at Animal Kingdom had fresh fruits, vegetables and hummus. I ate more hummus during this trip than ever before, but it was nice to have a meat-free protein option. I would often buy a container of vegetables (carrots and celery) and a container of hummus with pretzels for a healthy meal.

 

Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa

FullSizeRenderThe dining options in Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa were great. Because Saratoga Springs and Spa is a Disney Vacation Club resort with villa options, their food selection resembles a small grocery store. They had hummus, vegetables, fresh fruit, silk milk, whole grain cereal and popcorn. They had a nice selection and options for making a meal in the kitchenette in the resort room.

 

Healthy eating at Walt Disney World

 

If you have a special dietary need, there is no better place than Walt Disney World. You can take a few steps prior to visiting to ensure you have no problem with dining allergy-free during your trip:

 

  1. Make an Advanced Dining Reservation (ADR) on My Disney Experience and note your special diet on each reservation.
  2. Email the Special Diets department prior to your trip to understand more about your options, given your dietary concerns at SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com or call (407) 824-5967
  3. Ask to speak with the Chef when you arrive at your Disney Dining restaurant.
