Top Five Halloween Races in the Carolinas

halloweenI love Halloween! I get excited to make Halloween treats, carve pumpkins and go to fall festivals with my kids. What better way to combine two of my favorite things: running and Halloween! There are many fun Halloween races, right here in the Carolinas. Here are my top five recommendations:

Halloween Half Marathon Series

The Halloween Half Marathon Series is held in several locations, including Miami Beach, Atlanta, North Carolina, Key West, San Juan and Petersburg. The NC race is held in Fayetteville, NC, which is near the coast, and it starts at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31. Runners are encouraged to show up in costume and have a blast. The best part about the race is the fun, specially designed medal! They change the medal each year to represent a different “featured creature”.

Old Town Zombie Crawl 5K and Fun Run

Check out the Old Town Zombie Crawl 5K and Fun Run on October 24 at 3:00 p.m. on Main Street in Rock Hill. This course is a USATF Certified 5K. Runners are encouraged to either dress up like zombies or arrive between 12-3 to get a zombie makeover by a makeup artist! The fun doesn’t stop at the end of the run, as you can stay for the after party and have a special meet-n-greet with Kent Wagner and Mike Mundy. There will be refreshments and a show of Night of the Living Dead.

Halloween Hustle

Run a 5K that’s fun for the entire family in Statesville, NC at the Halloween Hustle. The Halloween Hustle is held on October 27 at 6:30 p.m. There will be awards for the best costume!

Halloween 5K – Run for a Cure

The Halloween 5K Run for a Cure will be held at 9:00 a.m. on October 21 in Greenville. This is a brand new race. The proceeds will benefit Alzheimer’s research.

Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun

This race will take place on Saturday, October 24 at 5:15 p.m. in Riverbend Park in Conover, NC. There will be a bonfire, s’mores, pizza, a photo booth, awards and race bags! There will also be a performance by an all-girl band, The Ya-Yas. The proceeds of the event benefit homeless veterans. There is a costume contest, treat bags for kids and even doggie treats for the best dressed dog!
